Third Battle of Ypres August 1917 Military Medal and Casualty medal group of Private Horace Atkinson, 11th Bn (1st South Downs Battalion) Royal Sussex Regiment.

Gazetted – London Gazette 18th October 1917 pp 10715

Horace Atkinson was born in Sheerness, Kent,1881. He served with 11 Service Battalion (No G-5966). the 11th being 1st South Downs Battalion (Lowther’s Lambs). The battalion served on the Western Front from March 1916 as part of the 116th Brigade, 39th Division.

Horace Atkinson is Remembered with Honour on the Tyne Cot Memorial. His name is one of 45 Royal Sussex Regiment casualties on that day, 26th September 1917.
