Description

India Medal 1896 and Long Service and Good Conduct Medal group to Private Alfred Thomas Fabian, Royal Sussex Regiment and Hampshire Regiment.

Alfred Thomas Fabian was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire and he was a 19 year old labourer when he enlisted into the Royal Sussex Regiment at Chichester in July 1892. He transferred to the Hampshire Regiment with effect from October 1898.

In his 21 years of service he served 9 years in India then periods in Aden, Bermuda, South Africa and Mauritius. His papers further confirm his Long Service Medal with £5 gratuity. The LSGC certificate states dated 1911 to 5353 Pte A Fabian 1st Hampshire Regt.

Medal roll for the 2nd Battalion confirms India medal and clasps.
