A fine Kano-Sokoto Campaign, West African Field Force Distinguished Conduct Medal to 1st Northern Nigeria Regiment Sergeant, Northern Ranks, Mounted Infantry.

King Edward VII issue, one the earliest of the 55 only ever issued.

Gazetted – London Gazette July 31st 1903 (pp 4816) entry as follows – Native Ranks – Mounted Infantry. No. 1096, Sergeant Arrie, 1st Northern Nigeria Regiment.

This award is the first of seven D.C.M. recommendations listed on a nominal roll submitted by Colonel T.L.N Morland and Brigadier-General G.V. Kemball (Commander), which is included in Kemball’s detailed despatch on the Kano-Sokoto Campaign of January-February 1903. The Kano Expeditionary Force awards were the very first West African D.C.M.s to be issued and it may be noted that the recipient’s name and rank on the medal differ slightly from details in the London Gazette.
