Recce Corps General Service Medal and War Medal
GSM with Palestine 1945-48 Clasp and his boxed War Medal with compliment slip and letter. GSM is named to:
14988949 PTE. L. COUCH. RECCE.
The white box for the GSM confirms his name , rank, number and Corps.
The OHMS Box is addressed to: Mr. L. COUCH, LYNMOR, FIELD ROAD, CROWLE, SCUNTHORPE, DN17 4HP, S. HUMBERSIDE. It was sent from MOD Droitwich with the reference number, handwritten on the box – D/MEDALS/2/1/01865B.
Also, the official card confirming the single medal award is in the box. There is also a letter addressed to Mr JL Couch at the above address. This is from The MOD at Droitwich. It is the accompanying letter to the boxed War Medal. The reverse of the letter refers to the Palestine Clasp GSM. The photographs will clearly show these items.
The following text refers to the 6th Recce Corps in Palestine…….”following the Japanese surrender however, they were reallocated to security duties in Palestine. The regiment landed in Haifa on 22 October 1945 and worked as part of the 6th Airborne Division faced with civil disobedience and violence amongst the Arab and Jewish communities.
On 1 February 1946 the 6th Airborne Armoured Recce Regt RAC was disbanded. Most of the personnel were transferred to the 3rd King’s Own Hussars, which became an (Airborne) Recce Regiment.”
