Manchester Regiment Wittebergen QSA Medal
Queen’s South Africa Medal with Cape Colony, Transvaal and Wittebergen Clasps. Named to: 2154 CORPL, J. MERCER. MANCH REGT. NB the typo of J for G as his initial. This type of error is not uncommon.
He was an 18 year old labourer born in Cranleigh, Surrey when he attested into the Manchester Regiment on the 8th March 1888. His papers are on line and they can be sent by email to the purchaser. The papers confirm that his family lived in Compton, near Guidlford, Surrey when he joined the army.
The medal roll for the QSA confirms this entitlement and the medal roll for the King’s South Africa Medal confirms that he was awarded the KSA with South Africa 1901 Clasp. Overall he served 13 years and 53 days.
