Gwalior Star with Maharajpoor Centre correctly named to Private James Goddard. H. M. 16th Lancers.
Discharge papers confirm that 943 Private James Goddard was from Bildeston, Hadleigh, Suffolk. He attested into the 16th Lancers in October 1835 when aged 19 years. He faced Court Martial twice and was recorded on defaulters on 8 occasions. He served in the East Indies for 11 years out of a total of 24 years service.
In 1856 he transferred to 6th Dragoon Guards and is on the medal roll for the Indian Mutiny medal.
