Anglo Boer War King’s South Africa Medal to Robert Lawes.

Lawes served in excess of 5 years in India, then Aden and after a period serving at home he was posted to Hong Kong (18th July 1900 to 29th March 1901) in between periods in the Cape serving in the Anglo Boer War.

He was from King’s Lynn, Norfolk and as a 20 year old labourer when he joined to army 1889.

74867 Gunner Robert Lawes served with 15th Company  (Southern Division) Royal Artillery, he also served with 14 Company (Western Division. He went from South Africa to Hong Kong to serve in the China War and later returned to South Africa for the remainder of that war.

 

In addition to the Queen’s South Africa Medal (Paarderberg, Driefontein and Cape Colony clasps) and this King’s South Africa Medal Lawes was also was awarded the China 1900 Medal
