James Lee was born Barking, Essex and was an 18 year old Carman when he attested into the Royal Artillery in December 1898. He served in excess of 4 years before being discharged Medically unfit. He had served over 3 and a half years in South Africa and was also entitled the Queen’s South Africa Medal with Johannesburg, Driefontein, Diamond Hill, Belfast and Cape Colony clasps.
