Superb India General Service Medal to Mr Henry Buckle.

Born circa 1848 in Midnapore, Bengal to William Boyd Buckle of the Bengal Civil Service.

He served in the Burma High Commission from august 1867 as Assistant Commissioner and was in charge of the Town’s Magistrates Office in Akyab from 1871 to 1874, and of hill tract of North Arakan 1874 to 1876. Then in command of an expedition against the Shandus, November 1876.

From June 1878 he served as Deputy Commissioner in various district – President of the Henzada Municipal Committee December 1844, Officiating Commissioner 188, 1890, 1892, then additional Sessions Judge Pegu and Irrawadi, January 1891 and Pegu Division November 1893.

The 1911 Census has him living at Ashton Lodge, Long Ashton, Somerset.

He retired January 1903 and died 15th July 1916.

Medal – India General Service Medal 1854 with Burma 1887-89 clasp named to – Mr. H. Buckle, Dy. Comr.

footnote – His son, Henry, an Officer in the Royal Artillery died of wounds in France 1914.
