1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games Two Pound Silver Proof Coin
The XIII Commonwealth Games opened in Edinburgh on 24 July 1986. This Two Pound silver proof coin, released to mark the occasion, was the first UK commemorative coin with a sporting theme. The obverse shows a portrait of Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf. The reverse features a design by British sculptor Norman Sillman which includes a Scottish thistle overlaid on Saint Andrew’s cross.
